Christmas 2003. We had planned on spending the day at Disneyland, but for the first time in twenty years it rained on Christmas Day! Here are just a few pictures of the kids with their Christmas presents as well as one picture from Disneyland on the first day of the new year. (25 Dec 2003 and 1 Jan 2004)

Pumpkin Patch. Christopher's class from First Baptist Day School made a field trip to Faulkner Farms' pumpkin patch in Santa Paula (20 Oct 2003)

Home Makeover. After eight years in the home, it was time for a makeover. It was a busy summer (and then some) as every room was touched. Here's a quick list of the projects: new windows in the back, a whole-house audio and video system, interior painting, window coverings, wood laminate flooring downstairs and carpet upstairs, fireplace tiles/doors/mantel, kitchen appliances and furniture. (Jun - Dec 2003)

Easter. We enjoyed Christopher's first Easter in Oxnard where Sydney got to hunt for Easter eggs in our backyard. In May, we headed north to visit the Roth's and see the boys animals at the King City Fair. (23 Apr - 21 May 2000)

Christopher Ross Kane. A new addition to the family. Christopher Ross was born on January 25, 2000 at 7:56 a.m. He weighed 7-lb 12-oz and was 20-1/4-in long. (25 Jan - Apr 2000)

Walt Disney World. While I was working on Tue and Wed in Cape Canaveral, the girls enjoyed Walt Disney World. Tue was spent in Animal Kingdom and Wed at Magic Kingdom. I was able to join them Thu at Magic Kingdom and Fri at MGM/Disney Studios. The weather was quite hot, so we spent a little bit of time in the swimming pool too. What a week! (24-28 May 1999)

National Aquarium, Philadelphia and Virginia Beach. One of the nice things about Washington DC is that there are a lot of choices for a weekend getaway. We enjoyed the Baltimore harbor area and then headed north to Philadelpia to enjoy a little of our nation's history. (Apr-May 1999)

Easter, Cherry Blossoms and a visit from the Nicholls. I caught a red-eye flight back from Los Angeles so that I could be here on Easter Sunday with Kathy, Sydney and the Nichols family. It was a great decision as we had a wonderful time on Sunday. After our Easter egg hunt, we headed to the National Mall and the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms. Though the Nichols family mostly fended for themselves, we did join them for a tour of the U.S. Capitol and the Holocaust Museum. Overall, an enjoyable time. (Apr 1999)

Roth's come to the City. Our nephews came for a visit and brought along Mom (Betsy) and Dad (Frank). We saw a little of everything Washington DC has to offer. We did a LOT of walking and my poor little nephews let me know about it. Strange thing is that once we returned to the apartment, the first thing they would do was run to the basement to play basketball! :-) (Mar 1999)

Early March in Washington DC. The first few days of March were really beautiful. The weather warmed, the sun stayed out and the flowers bloomed. (Mar 1999)

February in Washinton DC. At least the weather was a little kinder this month. Kathy and Sydney are still getting to visit the Zoo fairly often and are really enjoying Gymboree. (Feb 1999)

Welcoming in a new year. The weather on the East Coast sure is strange. One day it's relatively warm and the next it's below freezing. We didn't spend a lot of time outdoors this month, but did at least visit the Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson Memorials. (Jan 1999)

Sydney's First Birthday. It's hard to believe, but it's January 1999 and our little angel is turning one year old. Mom wasn't going to miss this opportunity to host a party, so Sydney was able to celebrate this momentous event with her friends. It sure was fun. (2 - 9 Jan 1999)

A Capitol Christmas. This extended trip is likely our only chance to celebrate Christmas in Washington DC, so we decided to stay for the holidays. We had been waiting until the Christmas season to visit the White House and we weren't disappointed. Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed inside so you'll have to take the tour yourself one year! The Kennedy-Warren did a superb job of hosting both a children's Christmas party as well as a small social on Christmas Eve. We prayed for snow AND WE GOT IT! Not much, but enough to say it was a white Christmas. (Dec 1998)

An East Coast Autumn. Sydney's first Halloween was celebrated at a wonderful Kennedy-Warren party. They say it is often prettier (not much rain this year), but we weren't disappointed with the different colors of the leaves in Shenandoah National Park. We also found time to explore Luray Caverns. Veterans' Day and the following weekend was enjoyed in New York City. (30 Oct - 22 Dec 1998)

California Dreaming. We're home, but only temporarily. Pat returned to NFESC to close out the fiscal year but had to return to Washington DC on Columbus Day (Mon 12 Oct). We had a lot of fun while we were here (pumpkin patch, beach, friends, Roth's). (26 Sep - 17 Oct 1998)

Colorado Trip. Kathy and Sydney got a week visit with Grandma & Grandpa and John & Tracy. Though Pat had to keep working in Washington DC, he did catch up with them in Los Angeles on Sat 26 Sep. Boy did he miss his two girls! (19 - 26 Sep 1998)

Goofing Around. It's not quite so hot anymore, so it's time to enjoy the outdoors. Some pictures outside the Kennedy-Warren and from a walk around Rock Creek Park and Georgetown. (Sep 1998)

Return to California. Pat had business in Port Hueneme and the girls got to tag along. They did a lot of visiting locally and we were able to spend the final weekend at the Roth's. (1 - 9 Aug 1998)

Mount Vernon. The final home and resting place for George and Martha Washington, the First President and First Lady of the United States. The beautiful home overlooks the Potomac River near Washington DC. (25 Jul and 30 Aug 1998)

Back to Virginia Beach. After many years of work, Pat was finally able to see the "ACB Lighter" demonstration hardware in action at Naval Amphibious Base (NAB) Little Creek VA. Kathy and Sydney were supposed to be lounge lizards all week; however, Kathy got a bad sunburn on her feet on Tuesday, so the two girls didn't get much time outdoors after that. (6 - 10 Jul 1998)

Kathy does DC. Pat's sister visits Sydney, Kathy and Pat in Washington DC. (2 - 6 Jul 1998)

Andrew does DC. Pat's brother visits Sydney, Kathy and Pat in Washington DC. (25 - 29 Jun 1998)

Virginia Beach. We had an enjoyable weekend trip to Virginia Beach. The weather only partially cooperated--it was overcast most of Friday and Saturday, but really nice on Sunday. We enjoyed the balcony and view from our 6th floor, beach-front room. (4-7 Jun 1998)

Sydney Jean Kane. The blessed event finally arrived. Sydney Jean was born on January 6, 1998 at 6:42 a.m. She weighed 6-lb 11-oz and was 20-1/2-in long. (6 Jan 1998)

Holiday Season. Nora Mitchell hosted another baby shower for Kathy as well as a Christmas party for the preschool teachers of First Baptist Day School. In between these gala events, we made a Thanksgiving trip to the Roth's. Never to pass up an offer for help, Betsy put me to work installing a satellite dish given to them by John & Tracy.

Surprise Baby Shower. Kathy and I arrived in Lockwood on Friday evening. The girls went shopping on Saturday and the boys went to the lake in the Roth's new boat. What fun! The highlight of the weekend was the fast one Betsy pulled over on us--a surprise baby shower. We thought Carol and Ed McComas were coming over for dinner. They did, and so did a a couple of dozen others :-) Betsy stayed busy in the kitchen and Frank was on the grill. What a great time! (5 Oct 1997)
